Permanent water-retaining walls

Within the scope of the major infrastructure upgrades of the Oosterweel Link in Antwerp, several locations required the execution of permanent watertight retaining walls reaching depths of approximately 32 meters below ground level.

Due to strict geometric constraints on site, conventional solutions such as cement-bentonite diaphragm walls or soilmix walls could not be implemented. As a result, jet grouting was selected as the most suitable construction technique to achieve the required watertight barrier.

Future Foundations was responsible for the execution of these works, delivering a technically advanced jet grouting solution tailored to the demanding site conditions. Given the significant depth and stringent impermeability requirements, the verticality of each individual jet grout column was carefully measured and precisely mapped.

Based on these detailed measurements, the integrity and continuity of the wall were evaluated on a daily basis, allowing continuous adjustments during execution to ensure full compliance with the design requirements. In total, approximately 1,650 m³ of jet grouted wall was successfully installed at this location, demonstrating a high level of precision and control throughout the works.
