Railway retaining structure
BESIX, Draakplaats, Antwerp (BE)
For the construction of a new railway bridge adjacent to an existing operational track next to Draakplaats, a vertical retaining structure was required. Due to the numerous and often complex boundary conditions, no standard solution was available. Future Foundations was therefore approached to develop a tailored solution.
At Future Foundations, we proposed the implementation of a retaining system using a nailed jet grout wall. This solution was specifically designed to meet all project constraints and was ultimately selected by the client.
Despite the presence of significant debris in the subsoil, we successfully executed the works within the agreed timeframe. The project was completed to the full satisfaction of the main contractor, demonstrating our ability to deliver reliable, custom-engineered solutions under challenging conditions.
But guess what, the work of Future Foundations didn't stop with soil nailing and micropiling.
we are executing sheet piling, jet-grouting, compensation grouting, ground anchor works and more, forming essential components of some of the most important projects in Belgium.
In addition, at the R1 North Tunnel in Antwerp (Oosterweel link project), we have deployed The Cube System, a miniaturised slurry wall machine co-developed with Bauer Maschinen GmbH. This compact technology is constructing an underground polder wall to protect the tunnel and its surroundings from groundwater.
Together, these works demonstrate our ability to combine conventional techniques with innovative solutions, delivering safe and reliable results in some of Belgium’s most challenging infrastructure projects.
